Living Paintings sessions in the Selfridges library

London | 11 February - 17 February

Living Paintings

Living Paintings is an award winning charity that helps children and adults, with little or no sight, enjoy the pleasure and knowledge that reading books brings.

Well known published books are adapted to create unique Touch to See versions with tactile raised images and a soundtrack that directs the fingers, telling the stories of the pictures and describing their features thus bringing the pictures to life when the fingers feel them.

This unique and innovative combination of the senses of touch and hearing combine to make up for the missing sense of sight. The colour versions mean that sighted friends and family can share the exploration of the pictures, enriching everyone’s experience in an exciting and stimulating way.

Knowledge of the visual world is achieved in a fun and engaging way enabling the same opportunity to achieve full personal potential that sighted people take for granted. By putting visually impaired people in touch with the sighted world, Living Paintings help end isolation and foster inclusion.

Living Paintings will be in the Selfridges Library from 11 to 15 February during Kids Half Term Week bringing in a variety of their authors to read to children. These two hour sessions will be engaging and exciting for children of any age or visual ability so be sure to take part. Versions of their unique Touch to See books will also be available for blind and partially sighted children to enjoy. Please note the following schedule:
