Historic Dents glove exhibition showcases Queen Elizabeth I coronation glove at Selfridges London

As part of Selfridges’ Big British Bang, the historic glove-makers, Dents, has been invited to curate a mini exhibition of gloves in The Big British Shop, unveiled today.

The exhibition takes a fascinating look back at our monarchy, featuring historic gloves worn by our kings and queens. The star of the show is Queen Elizabeth I coronation glove, worn at her Westminster Abbey coronation ceremony in 1559. The glove is made from white alum tawed sueded leather, hand-sewn with silver thread, pearls and sequins. “This is an extremely rare opportunity, the glove has never before been seen in public”, explains Robert Yentob, the Managing Director of Dents who gave us a closer look at the beautifully ornate glove.

The collection includes additional relics such as Charles I coronation gloves, Queen’s Victoria’s mourning gloves and several Jubilee celebration gloves, all created to celebrate her illustrious reign.

As well as these historic pieces, Dents has created a special edition Jubilee 2012 glove designed exclusively for Selfridges.

Don’t miss this slice of British history, in The Big British Shop in the Concept store until 17 June.
