— 31 July 2012
The staff at our four stores are bursting with plenty of wonderful wine knowledge. We asked some of our Wine Shop experts to share their tipple of the month.

Rachel from London
CIEN Y PICOS Doble Pasta
£16.99

Michael from London
TINPOT HUT Pinot Gris
£15.99

The name ‘Cien y Pico’ means ‘hundred and something’ and refers to the age of the ancient Garnacha Tintorera vines from which the wines are made. The wine is packed full of blackfruits, plums, blueberries and herbal notes. The tannins are supple and full.   Tinpot hut is named after the tin huts that the musterers used to use when they rounded up the sheep in Autumn. The name links Marlborough’s past as a sheep farming centre with its current state as one of the world’s most dynamic wine regions. This Pinot Gris has a really silky texture and is full of peachy fruit and ripe pears.

DOMINIO DE TARES Baltos

SELFRIDGES Chenin Blanc
£10.99

Are the Spanish going off their Riojas? While we all know about Spain's most famous wine export, there are some fantastically exciting things going in the North West of the country. This is a fine example of the Mencia grape, made in Bierzo, a region in the autonomia of León. The product of 50 year old vines, this is full of spicy black fruits on the nose, with some notes of raspberry and blackcurrant leaf. Fantastic with cured meats and cheeses, or with pork belly and chorizo strew.   Ken Forrester, arguably South Africa's top producer describes Chenin Blanc as the "greatest white wine grape in the world" and Selfridges is excited that Ken has developed this special cuvee for us to present to you. Showing the terroir of the Elgin Vineyard, this wine is bright, crisp and fresh, with flavours of Granny Smith apple and grapefruit on the palate. Fresh yet round and fruity, this sumptuous summer wine pairs perfectly with fish in white wine or creamy sauces.
