When Selfridges met: Dirty Pretty Things and Stephen Webster

Dirty Pretty Things

After partying all over the world together, it seemed the natural progression for Dirty Pretty Things and Stephen Webster was to work together. And where better to house the collection than Selfridges?

We had the pleasure of catching up with design duo, Dee Murren and Claire Merry, of uber-cool lingerie label Dirty Pretty Things and jeweller-to-the-stars Stephen Webster, to discuss the launch of their new lingerie pop-up shop at Selfridges London. We even managed to fit in some time to swap advice on choosing the ultimate Valentine's present.

Inspired by Stephen’s decadent envy eye pendant from the ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ jewellery range, the brands set about creating a playful take on the pendant for a bra. “Our first version of it was using the envy eye and making a left and a right which was perfect for a bra, but then I thought that could be a little freaky in the bedroom, with two eyes looking at you” The idea quickly moved on to incorporate a winking eye, and Stephen wasted no time in hand crafting the bejewelled piece which is now on display in the lingerie department on the Third Floor.

In order to make Stephen’s trademark design commercially viable the team approached Swarovski to create a piece that you can wear on a day-to-day basis. “We wanted to make it more accessible with the Swarovski but we only made 14 of them, so they’re real collector’s pieces.”

If you’re looking to treat your special lady to some lingerie this Valentines take advantage of Dee’s and Claire’s advice on Saturday 11 February. “We’re actually going to be working as sales assistants, so if anyone would like to come down, we’re happy to give advice to anyone that gets a bit stuck, as sometimes it can be a little bit difficult." But a word to the wise: “Have a rifle through her draws and find out what her correct size is before you go shopping.”

Alternatively take your pick from Dirty Pretty Thing’s babydoll and loungewear collection, with only three sizes to choose between it will make getting it wrong very hard.

Visit the pop-up shop for yourself and meet the designers in person on Thursday 9 February, on the Third Floor, Selfridges London.

And discover the collection online now.
